A word of warning from .tv for anybody chancing travelling without tickets:

Liverpool FC would like to make the following important announcement for supporters travelling to Belgium for the Champions League qualifier against Standard Liege next week.

A Liverpool FC spokesman said: "There is a law in Belgium which makes it an arrestable offence to be in the vicinity of a football stadium without a valid match ticket.

"Several supporters fell foul of this legislation when we played Anderlecht in 2005 and were detained by Belgian authorities.

"Please be aware of this law and do not travel to Liege without a ticket."

http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/drilldown/N160811080806-1508.htm

I imagine there will be some without tickets there anyway, but the key phrase seems to be "in the vicinity of a football stadium." It might be worth while checking out what that means more precisely to avoid any Belgian police-related unpleasantness.

So will this also apply to the home leg? How will they sell the tickets for the next round, will it be based on last years european attendance?

Not sure exactly but remember reading about it. We're talking in miles I think. They brought it in when the Euros were there I think.

I imagine for the home it will be a complete fucking scramble like Marseille was last year.

They are likely to follow the well-worn pattern of recent years. First home game in the CL proper (assuming we qualify, don't want to tempt fate) is effectively a free-for-all after STHs, corporates etc. have been taken care of. After that loyalty kicks in. For aways they always take the previous season into account and last year they introduced this proof-of-travel thingy as well. I can't imagine it will be any different this year.
