Another little update.

I can now confirm that we have received the letter from the council that we were waiting for.

This is great news as it is the first time we've actually got anything official back from them and this is all down to the hard work and diligence of WillieBob who has been dealing with the council for a few weeks now.

The next step is to meet with the HLH council to discuss any proposals they may have regarding our idea of a memorial to the great man in their town.

At least three of us will be going up there to do this in the middle of January and we will, of course, let everyone know in this thread of the outcome of those discussions.

Thanks mate and thank you to everyone else for their words of support.

I can assure everyone that there's a LOT of hard work going on in the background to make sure that Friday's meeting with HLH council goes well. By the time Friday comes we'll have a professional, polished  presentation for them.

Hopefully it'll go well but we just don't know. Whatever happens though I will report back on this thread to update everyone with the news.

Please remember though that the design and wording for the memorial are still under discussion. As Peter says, the above design is what it could look like.

For our younger members who where not lucky enough to have been a match goer during Paisleys reign, please bare in mind that he was only our manager for 9 years.

Bob Paisley was a world football great.

Bev has just left to attend the meeting between the Hetton council and representatives of our campaign. Four of us in total will be there-Brum Bird, WillieBob, Peter Evo and JohnM-RedRock.

The meeting starts at 12.30 in a local hotel conference room where I believe 5 council members will be in attendance. We have put together a very nice looking presentation for the council members so that they know how serious we are about what we would like to do.

Following this meeting the council will be showing the OTK-ers around the town to look at possible sites for the memorial.

I'm in work till 8.30pm so I'll update this thread with how it went later tonight around 10ish.

I don't know what the area is like up there, but surely when you put something in place like a memorial, it brings in more visitors and more revenue to local businesses, etc?

OK everyone, I've had word back from the gang thats met the council today and its positive news.

The council where very impressed with us, the Paisley family in Hetton where said to be "speechless" at the news and delighted with our idea. Discussions moved on to putting it forward to Sunderland City Council (because it has to get past them next) but Hetton council are absolutely determined thats this goes ahead and have told us to start fund raising.

They discussed possible sites, local stone quarries to use for materials, all kinds of things.

The group from here have stayed over night in Hetton-le-Hole so I can't give you the full report as I would have hoped to but I'm sure that once Bev is back tomorrow she will post in this thread about how things went. She's just told me that a cabbie they were using heard of the plan, refused his fare and gave us the first £5 towards the memorial. He said the people want it too.

As I say, its not really my place to be giving this the nod until I have heard properley from the OTK group up there but I reckon ITS ON!

Please come back to this thread tomorrow evening when there will be MUCH more for you to read about.
